Whose Approval Did You Get?
Approval.
We want it, we crave it. But every time we seek personal validation or the approval of others we are giving our power away. We are giving other people the right to dictate how we feel about ourselves.
This morning, the theme of “approval” and “validation” has been playing over and over for me – so I thought I’d take a second and share some thoughts with you.
1. The first thing that caught my eye was Paulo Coelho‘s Facebook status today:
“What makes people weak? Their need for validation and recognition, their need to feel important. Don’t get caught in this trap.”
2. A short while later, I read a blog post from Seth Godin titled “Validation Is Overrated“. Although he’s talking about validation in the business world, his message is bang-on and applies to our personal lives as well.
3. This made me think of a web comic that I read on Friday.
All of which reminded me of this touching little short film which I’ve included below.
